What's my story?
Welcome! I'm Peta Thompson (she/her), a Somatic Wellness Coach with a distinctive background from the military and professional skydiving, extreme highs and lows, eventually leading me to a path focused on yoga, somatic embodiment, and harm reduction.
A decade in professional skydiving, with 4,000 jumps under my belt, cultivated an ego-driven identity leading to an identity crisis. Living in a chronic state of fight-or-flight and a challenged relationship with alcohol took its toll on my physical and mental health, leaving me in a state of depression. This marked the beginning of my search for connection to my essence and a path towards healing.
Yoga found me, becoming the catalyst for my transformative journey. Training under incredible teachers, including Dr. Gabor Mate, deepened my understanding of trauma, addiction, and healing practices. My skydiving experience equipped me with advanced interpersonal skills in non-verbal communication, safety, attunement, and nervous system regulation.
Adding to this diverse background is my experience in human resources in the corporate world.
My struggles with mental health and alcoholism during my late teens and early 20s fuel my passion for working with young adults and teens. Having personally navigated a dysregulated nervous system during my skydiving years, I'm devoted to coaching extreme sport athletes, helping them regulate their nervous systems for harmony and balance.
Beyond offering Yoga, Somatic Therapy, and Compassionate Inquiry through Peta Thompson Wellness, I contribute to Sana Recovery Counselling & Recovery House in North Carolina. Here, I provide Trauma-informed Somatic Coaching to young men dealing with substance use and mental health challenges. Additionally, I volunteer in the Bass Music Festival community, advocating for harm reduction.
If you're feeling trapped by your identity or seeking guidance on your sober journey, I'm honored to walk with you. Together, we'll break free from limiting walls and embrace a new sense of freedom and inner connection.
